Drug calculator
This drug calculator is devised to aid rapid prescribing of commonly used paediatric critical care drugs.
The doses should still be cross-checked.
The calculator SHOULD NOT be downloaded or saved to another computer - it is updated to reflect changes in PICU protocols and new evidence, but this will not apply to versions stored on local computers.
- The calculator is opened as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
- Enter the patient's weight if known, (or if not, enter the age in years).
- Press return, and the calculator will display the suggested doses for a range of bolus drugs and infusions.
- This can then be printed as a single A4 sheet (select 'Print 2 pages per sheet' in your printer finishing dialogue)
- When closing, click 'No' when asked if you want to save changes
Although the calculator has been checked by our pharmacy department, we cannot take responsibility for any errors arising from its use - it is the prescriber's responsibility to check the doses against a secondary source.
